Title: The Hating Game
Author: Sally Thorne
My Rating: 4.5 stars! ⭐️
Description:
Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.
Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

My Review:
WOW! This book has definitely got to be my new favorite romance/contemporary book...of all time! I had such a blast reading it, to the point where I was compulsively flipping the pages because every chapter had me totally invested in the story and the characters!

First of all…this book is seriously funny. Literally from the first couple of pages when it’s revealed of what Lucy’s password for her computer was, I was already hooked! The book definitely starts off with a bang, and it continues to be that way throughout the whole course of the novel.

Secondly, the romance is A+! We love healthy, supportive relationships on this blog, and this book is a perfect example of that. Seeing their relationship evolve throughout the course of the book was so satisfying to read, especially with that enemies to lovers trope that is a total auto-read for me! Plus the banter between Lucy and Josh is something that you cannot help but love! It’s so ridiculous and hilariously funny and I could totally picture them bickering in my head.

I also really liked how much I learned from this novel, especially about how the publishing industry really works, because guess what, these two characters work in a publishing house! (I mean we really are getting the whole package deal with this book!) It’s something I never read in a book before, and something I definitely took a liking for!

The reason I docked off half a star was because there were some scenes (especially near the last half of the book) in which I wanted a little more substance to. They were executed great, it was just that I wanted it to be discussed a little more thoroughly.

As funny as this book is, there are also a whole bunch of scenes where I felt a little emotional too! This book is written so well that some of the lines really hit home and make you feel and understand the characters so much more! A definite props to the author for all the lovely quotes I bookmarked the shit out of! 😂

And for the characters themselves, Lucy is a great protagonist! She’s seriously dorky and adorable, which is the perfect contrast to Josh, who is portrayed to be more brut-ish. Their relationship definitely gave me all the feels and butterflies, (and pretty much had me squealing in adoration with every single interaction these two had!)

All I can say is READ THIS BOOK! (And it really should be made into a movie because rom-coms need to make a comeback!)

Thanks for reading!
