Believe it or not, Halloween isn’t my favorite time of the year (Christmas steals the deal on that one) but that’s mainly because I’m the biggest scaredy cat there is. I don’t think I’ve ever actually completed one horror movie because I get too freaked out. (The closest one was Paranormal Activity, but I just got too bored to finish it 😆).

Butttt that doesn’t mean I don’t get caught up on all the fun festivities it brings. I love seeing all the decorated houses on my street as well as hanging out with my friends on the night of Halloween.

So, in my attempt to contribute to the Halloween spirit as much as I can, what better way than to share some books that are pretty suitable to read this month? The ones I have listed aren’t all scary (at all), but they have a dark factor to them that makes up for the ‘conventional scary’ (if that makes any sense….)

STALKING JACK THE RIPPER BY KERRI MANISCALCO
33784373

Now I’m sure this book is on a lot of other bloggers lists as well, but it truly is perfect! It’s a murder mystery novel following the case of Jack the Ripper—with all of its gory details. Now my main love for this book isn’t exactly for the scary but more for the romantic subplot between the two main characters, which is my favorite thing ever.
👻 Scare factor: Out of my personal list, this one ranks pretty high on the spooky.

THE CRUEL PRINCE BY HOLLY BLACK

No…..this is not just an excuse to mention one of my favorite books…..but I truly think October is actually a perfect time to read this one! This book is filled with characters who are terrible people. Like there’s not one person in this novel that hasn’t done anything horrible and it’s just so good? I’m so in love with this world Holly Black has created, and I’m so glad that she didn’t shy away from all the dark aspects of the fae.
👻 Scare Factor: Not scary, but there are a lot of dark themes in this book.

THE BONE WITCH BY RIN CHUPECO
30095464

This book is literally the most perfect Halloween book ever because it’s about a girl who summons her dead brother from his grave. A girl whose power is to essentially bring dead people back to life…in all of its creepy glory.
👻 Scare Factor: Perfect Halloween read!

THE CITY OF BRASS BY S.A CHAKRABORTY
32718027

This is one of those few books that actually managed to make my heart race with anticipation because I was so nervous for these characters! The stakes in this book are insanely high which caused everything to be so intense! This book is scary in the way of how manipulative some characters can be, as well as how deep the need for revenge is.
👻 Scare Factor: not your conventional scary, but it’s scary in a real-world situation!

A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC BY V.E SCHWAB

Yes, I know this book isn’t very scary, but I think the whole tone of this book is perfect for Halloween! We spend quite some time in cold, dreary Gray London which feels really suitable to read this time of year! And there’s a lot of dark magic involved in this book (more in the sequels I’m sure) but this is a perfect setup!
👻 Scare Factor: the tone of this book is great for the month of October!

So these are all the books that I have on this list that are suitable for Halloween, even though they’re not actually classified as horror books, but whatever! 😆

I also just realized that I’m posting this in the middle of October so if you can still manage to add a couple more books to your TBR piles this month, I recommend these!

Let me know some of the books you are planning to, or have already read in October!

Thanks for reading
